umami burger

if there is a burger place i love just as much as my favorite father's office,
it has to be the umami burger
which one do i love more? it's really a tough question because i love them both dearly!

so what does "umami" mean?
umami is a japanese word describing the pleasant and savory taste imparted by glutamate, a type of amino acid and ribonucleotides that occur naturally in foods
umami as a taste is subtle but it blends with other tastes well to expand your experience while eating

so here it goes with mouthwatering gourmet burger!

so far i only checked out three of their locations & noticed that each has their own unique decor-
since each location not only has unique decors but unique menus & only some have full bars, you might want to do your research before checking out a place-
also,  if it helps, la brea location has the tablet pc which you can play with if you get bored with..well, your 'date' ;)

true. this means no 'refills' but you will get drinks that are extra fresh!

korean sashimi

sashimi
yes, you will be thinking of of your usual japanese raw fish when you hear the word: sashimi

however, recently i've been loving "korean-sashimi"

looks the same?
it does...
for now...

sashimi platter

but in actuality, in addition to some sort of sashimi platter, you get all of this!!! 
(although it does differs from each restaurants & fresh fish of the day & what kind of "special package" you decide to get)

*please note that i never got to take photos of ALL the food because i get overwhelmed with everything they bring you, so did have to combine photos from few different visits and picked only the 'impressive' looking food to post*

salmon skin, sea squirt, and unknown dish

usually after going through all these 'courses' of food, they give you a hand-roll to 'cleanse' your palette.

overall, korean sashimi may seem expensive because you purchase "packages" you share with your table which usually goes up easily to $100+
however, if you were to eat all these seafood at a japanese sahimi place, it will be a lot more expensive as i usually spend $70+ just for myself when i eat nice 'sushi'

so next time you are craving some fresh raw fish, try going to a good korean sashimi place because you really can 'fill your stomach' with raw fish without really killing your wallet-

catalina kitchen

continuing on the "feel-good-whenever-restaurant"
today's post is on catalina kitchen at terranea resort

for those who don't know about terranea resort, it is located at the edge of the pacific ocean on the palos verdes peninsula. as written on their website, "terranea's 102acres are infused with the elegance of a classic mediterranean estate, the casual energy of coastal southern california, and coutless ways to spend your days -- all tied together with authentic, genuine hospitality and a deep respect for this irreplaceable oceanfront setting. terranea resort, located just south of los angeles, includes guest rooms, suites, bungalows, casitas and villas and a host o world-class amenities, including spectacular dining venues, a world-class spa, a stunning 9-hole golf course and family-friendly activities"
in my own words, it is just a beautiful resort by the ocean where you feel like you are on a vacation, away from home, when it's not too far from your house if you are an los angeleano!

i've been here for brunch, lunch and dinner and had pleasant experience whenever i visited 


their saturday special california breakfast buffet for $32 is highly recommended as i thoroughly enjoyed the fresh buffet
they also offer sunday brunch for $52 which looks even more amazing! but i haven't had a chance to try it yet because sundays are my church days...
if not, they also offer american breakfast package for $24 daily on weekdays

after a meal, you should enjoy the weather with a nice walk by the resort-
or you can opt for a hike by their hiking trail before your meal ;) 


on a beautiful day, make sure to drive over to see the beautiful ocean & grab lunch outside while getting some sun!
