son of a gun

yup! that's the name of the restaurant!

owned by the same people who runs animal
i knew I wanted to try it as soon as they opened!

for a warning, it is definitely recommend that everyone make a reservation before heading here
it is a small restaurant so you really don't have an option, especially for a big party . . .
for the walk-ins, you can still eat at the long communal table, but the wait was long
. . . because we got there at 6:20 and it was already 40min wait for 2 people when the restaurant opens at 6!
you get the point-

atmosphere is cozy.
the restaurant, again, is very small and it can get somewhat claustrophobic, but wooden walls that tried to accentuate the 'seafood' specialty restaurant + the communal table actually makes you feel rather homey
also i enjoyed little details like all servers wearing plaid & the check coming out with a shell & oyster can cover.

daily menu
yup. i am sure everyone can guess their specialty
small but super crowded bar
mainly filled by all those that are waiting for a table

now, finally the food!
these are tapas style,  so order a few or handful depending on how hungry you are-

overall, definitely on the 'heavy flavor' for seafood, but they were delicious!
i'd say they have very distinct flavors I have not tried elsewhere, which was very interesting . . . in a good way

lobster roll with celery & lemon aioli
this was my favorite! wow!
shrimp toast sandwich with herbs & siracha mayo
very heavy, but very delicious!
as soon as  you take a bite, you will be 'wow-ed'
yes, heavy . . but fattening flavors are what taste the best, right?
hamachi
looks like your ordinary hamachi sashimi, but nop!
first you taste some strong spices that tastes almost like curry
& ending is spicy but sour
mussels with tarragon, pernod, fennel, toast
again, not your ordinary mussel broth! do try-
linguine and clams, uni aglio-olio, chili, breadcrumbs
heavy but interesting flavors
loving the way they give you your check!

yes, the price was high for such tiny tapas portions . . .
but i would so go back!
yes, i am already drooling for more deliciousness!

i am now happilyfull ♥
see you on my next adventure!
