3 days of fasting

i recently went on a 3-day fast
not because i was trying to detox
nor because i was trying to lose few pounds
but to have clearer mind as a boost to my 2-weeks of crucial time of my life

since i knew i couldn't survive only on water,
i did drink these healthy juices found at whole foods

honestly, i didn't know what i was getting myself into
because i normally don't drink these super-healthy drinks
& because i didn't even prep prior to this fast
which was a big no-no!
yes . . . it was actually rather painful towards the end of the fast
and i did get light-headed & had bad reaction when i smelled gas while pumping gas into my car
so i do suggest that you prepare yourself well before starting any type of fasting!

there are so many types of cleanse-juice-fads going on such as blueprint cleanse,  pressed juiceryleaf organics or juice maids to name a few in the los angeles area
but being too luxe wasn't the theme i was going for
and i am no-where near being a health-freak
 . . . although i admit that i did end up going somewhat overboard with the juices i ended up choosing that are non-acidic yet are also somewhat beneficial to health

tonix: coconut water kefir

i am a huge fan of coconut h2o
but had no idea what kefir was . . . until i smelled it-
to be honest, i thought this drink would have more coconut-taste to it

i admit . . . i should have done more research before purchasing that expensive bottle (16oz = $13) but it sounded real good as it is described as the first bottled coconut water kefir on the market!

on the tonix website, it is described as:
tonix coconut water kefir is a whole food probiotic, rich in vitamins, minerals, and natural elecrolytes.
this product is brisling with lactobacillus and bifidobacteria, which creates awesome intestinal flora, digestion and production of b-6, b12, k, niacin and folic acid.
this is a fermented beverage that hydrates, and gently cleanses the intestinal tract, and liver. tonix coconut water kefir promoting general health and cleanliness in the body.
it replaces any lost electrolytes and is high in potassium.

kefir (alternately kefirs, keefir, kephir, kewra, talai, mudu kekiya, milkkefir, bulgaros) is a fermented milk drink that originated with shepherds of the north caucasus  region, who discovered that fresh milk carried in leather pouches would occasionally ferment into an effervescent beverage. it is prepared by inoculating cow, goat, or sheep's milk with kefir grains. traditional kefir was made in skin bags that were hung near a doorway; the bag would be knocked by anyone passing through the doorway to help keep the milk and kefir grains well mixed.
kefir grains are a combination of bacteria and yeasts in a matrix of proteins, lipids, and sugars, and this symbiotic matrix forms "grains" that resemble cauliflower. today, kefir is becoming increasingly popular due to new research into its health benefits. many different bacteria and yeasts are found in the kefir grains, which are acomplex and highly variable community of lactic acid bacteria and yeasts of micro-organisms. while some drink kefir straight, many find it too sour on its own and prefer to add flavors or sweeteners. kefir is sold with different varieties of fruit and flavors already added, both in the organic/ecologic and non-organic varieties. it is a breakfast, lunch and dinner drink popular across all areas of russia, belarus, ukraine, poland, slovakia, the czech republic, hungray, romania, moldova, serbia, croatia, bosnia, norway, sweden, estonia, latvia and lithuania where it is known as an affordable health drink. it is drunk the same way as milk, often accompanying pastries and other sweets. 

i will try to make a smoothie out of the 1 bottle of kefir drink i didn't finish to make it more . . . "drinkable"
(yes, i gave up drinking the last bottle because i preferred to be hungry than to drink that!)

zukay: live active cultures drink
on the other hand, zukay's drinks were much easier to drink
i tried the raw beets & veggies medley fermented drinks
and although they both ran somewhat salty, they were tasty! 

similar to the kefir drink above,
according to zukay's fermentation 101lacto-fermentation, is a neat little process done completely through natural means. basically, lactobacilli, a symbiotic bacteria family that already lives in your intestinal system, is added to fresh vegetables and salt and allowed to grow. these friendly guys eat the starches and sugars in the veggies and turn them into lactic acid. 
This does a couple of things: 
1. give the product a tart but excellent taste
2. preserves the product naturally for a long (months, sometimes years) period of time 
3. enables you to preserve products without cooking them, giving the product a unique, fresh taste that cooked products can only dream about
4. provides a home for these friendly lactobacilli, which makes the fermented foods probiotic
5. lactic acid itself lowers your gut pH, making it a better home for these cultures and making it harder for bag bugs to affect you
6. kills any bad bacteria, and makes it impossible for any other bugs to get in and make a home for themselves
7. creates b vitamins that the product did not have before

my daily dosage:
1. bottle of evian
2. bottle of tonix: coconut water kefir
3. bottle of zukay's raw drink

honestly, zukay's drinks were pretty good and i would drink again
but tonix' coconut water kefir was intense . . . and it was really hard to drink for me
so i enjoyed my favorite evian water the most even in my hungry state

although i was only fasting for 3 days, 
i am soooooo happy to be able to EAT again! woohoo! 
(there is a reason why my blog is mainly on food . . . le sigh . . .)

but of course . . .
it is always more important how you get used to food again,
so i recommend you start with soup & bland food
